CGA Energy Security Summit 2026

The Fairmont Château Laurier, Ottawa, ON

The Energy Security Summit is a premier gathering of decision-makers, security experts, and energy system leaders focused on confronting the most urgent energy security challenges facing Canada today. Over two days, participants will examine the evolving global threat landscape, Canada’s role in supporting global energy security, and the technologies critical to protecting and strengthening energy production and delivery systems.

Presented by the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (MLI) and fuelled by the Energy Security Technical Advisory Committee (E-STAC), the summit is shaped by the guidance of a cross-sector Advisory Council with deep expertise across energy systems, national security, technology, and public policy.

Day 1 examines the strategic pressures reshaping Canada’s energy landscape. Through keynotes and high-level panels, participants explore energy security and strategic spending, the challenges of balancing affordability, sustainability, and resilience, and the role of government within an increasingly unstable global environment. Sessions address foreign influence in Canadian energy projects, security risks in the Arctic and northern regions, and intelligence and defence cooperation with international allies, underscoring the scale and immediacy of today’s threats.

Day 2 focuses on resilience across Canada’s interconnected systems. Programming highlights the growing interdependence of energy, telecommunications, and financial infrastructure, the rising importance of data security, and the need for coordinated, cross-sector responses. Discussions emphasize collaboration, alignment, and technological readiness to strengthen Canada’s ability to anticipate, withstand, and respond to emerging risks.

Join senior leaders from across sectors for a timely and focused forum examining the most relevant and time-sensitive energy security challenges facing Canada today.

APRIL 2026

2026 GTEN Spring LNG Course

Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, Richmond, BC, Canada

Gas turbine energy systems play a critical role in many sectors in facilitating developments towards low carbon and reliable cleaner energy resources, complementary to renewable energy. This includes providing compression for gas pipelines and LNG export facilities that can result in large worldwide GHG reductions. Part of developing an energy transition is continuous onsite technical training, so this planned course will offer several hours towards Professional Engineering continuous education credits. LNG liquefaction systems will be a key theme of this GTEN 2026 course in Richmond. Some preliminary topics which may be included are:

  • Basics of Gas Turbine, Heat Recovery and Gas Compressor Systems
  • LNG liquefaction Processes, and Canadian Facility Descriptions
  • Grid Resiliency with Peaking Power, Environmental Solutions
  • Gas Turbine Control Systems, Repairs and Operational Solutions
  • FortisBC Tilbury LNG Plant, on 2nd day

MAY 2026

2026 ERQ Energy Law Forum

Club Saint - James, Montréal, Quebec

It is a time of rapid change in Canada, driven by geopolitical forces, technological change, and evolving attitudes regarding climate change and future economic growth. Canada’s energy system is at the core of much of this discussion – how to balance the three competing priorities our energy system: energy security, sustainability, and affordability. The resulting reconsideration of energy policy by all levels of government across Canada has consequences for the delegation of decision authority by governments to regulators: what regulators will decide, how decisions will be made, and whether and by whom decisions will be reviewed.

The 2026 ERQ Energy Law Forum will explore Canada’s geopolitical and economic context, delve into recent advances in administrative law, and discuss the issues faced by regulators in the hearing room – new energy law issues, energy system challenges, and keeping the system affordable for customers.

MAY 2025

2025 GTEN Spring Technical Course

The Westin Nova Scotian, Halifax, NS, Canada

Gas turbine energy systems play a critical role in facilitating the transition towards de-carbonization of energy resources. They have supported the phaseout of coal-based power across Canada, as well as providing cogeneration services, and gas compression for pipelines and offshore platforms. Using large amounts of high pressure air for power, gas turbine systems produce dispatchable, on-demand power necessary to provide resilience and support for the increasing share of intermittent renewables, and for managing energy during extreme weather events.

Building on established technology and a large installed base, advancements in system efficiency, flexibility and emissions reduction technology are ensuring that reliable gas turbine systems will remain an important part of the energy mix for years to come.

GTEN delivers technical training and a biennial technical symposium related to gas turbine applications and turbomachinery in clean and reliable energy solutions. Part of developing the energy transition is continuous onsite learning, so this technical course offers several hours towards Professional Engineering continuing education credits.
