Interactive participation will be encouraged by using an open format and a hearing simulation involving all students.

MARCH 2019

CEPA Foundation Spring Meeting

Ottawa, ON

Tomorrow Is Now: A Workshop on 5G Technology, Operations, and Regulation

5G wireless service will constitute an integral part of the future gigabit communication network. It will enable a wide range of innovations that are critical for mature digital societies. Advanced wireless services based on 5G will be more complex technologically than previous services and will require substantial new investment. More importantly, they will constitute a new system of value generation. Unleashing this innovative potential will have far-reaching consequences. At the same time, because 5G will also require major investments by mobile operators, incentives for investment and innovation are important.

The objective of the workshop is to provide a comprehensive and international overview of 5G wireless service. Workshop speakers (academics, regulators, and operators) from Asia, Europe and the Americas will address the engineering, operational, and regulatory aspects of 5G investment and deployment. The workshop will be valuable to anyone who wants to know more about 5G and to understand the current status of 5G service in a global context.

GTEN Symposium

Banff, AB

Powering Canada’s Energy and Economic Future

In 2018 the Industrial Application of Gas Turbines Committee changed the name of the organization to Gas Turbines for Energy Network. The name change is intended to serve three primary purposes. The first is to ensure the many uses of gas turbines to produce energy are encompassed by the organization’s title. The second is to ensure the title reflects a vision of increased awareness about the role that gas turbine systems play in production of clean energy for mechanical drive, heat and electricity. The third is to ensure the title reflects the organization’s function as a network of industry members who can provide expertise to other organizations and individuals in matters pertaining to gas turbine systems.

The GTEN offers a Symposium held every two years for the exchange and dissemination of ideas and the communication of new developments related to the industrial application of gas turbines in Canada, and a Course/Workshop every other year. We hope you can join us in Banff this October!

NOVEMBER 2019

Spectrum Policy and Auctions: Best Practices from Around the World

Ottawa, ON

Spectrum Policy and Auctions: Best Practices from Around the World

Good spectrum policy and well-designed spectrum auctions are essential to the continued development of mobile telephone service, particularly for 5G service. Canada and the U. S., along with European countries, generally rely on auctions to allocate spectrum, but the conditions of the auctions and the objectives of spectrum policy differ among countries. The objective of this workshop is to explore these different spectrum and auction policies to determine, looking forward, which will be most effective in supporting 5G service.

Workshop speakers will be academics, regulators, and operators from North America and Europe. They will explain and evaluate spectrum and auction policies in a number of countries. The workshop will be valuable to anyone who wants to understand spectrum policy and auctions and how that will affect the deployment of 5G service.
